The rural yet sophisticated town of Weston is one of Connecticut’s best-kept secrets. With large residential lots, abundant green space, and limited commercial development, Weston blends its bucolic history with its modern and cultured surroundings. Weston boasts a well-rounded community atmosphere thanks to a vibrant arts scene through the Weston Commission for the Arts, its own Weston Library, a Senior Activities Center, country fairs and Farmer’s Markets, and a number of parks including the Nature Conservancy, Devil’s Den, and Trout Brook. The tranquil New England town epitomizes the phrase it takes a village, and is steeped in community events, volunteerism, family networking groups, and a small-town warmth reminiscent of a Norman Rockwell painting.
History
The Town of Weston is a small community in Southwestern Connecticut, approximately 58 miles outside of New York City. Originally a hunting ground of the Aspetuck Indians, residents from nearby Fairfield began settling in the area in the early eighteenth century. Incorporated in 1787, the Town of Weston started as an agricultural community before the growth of industry due to the water power on the Aspetuck River. After industry faded, the town underwent a revival in the early 20th century as artists and summer residents from New York made the area their home. This eclectic fusion remains today, giving Weston its unique character.
Education
Weston Public Schools are consistently rated among the top school districts in the state. The four schools are all located on the School Road campus, and share many sports fields and facilities. Hurlbutt Elementary School serves grades Pre-Kindergarten - 2, Weston Intermediate School grades 3 – 5, Weston Middle School grades 6 - 8 and Weston High School serves grades 9 - 12.
Private nursery schools include Norfield Children's Center, with 2s, 3s and 4s programs, and Play Smart, with a 3s and 4s program.
Recreational Facilities and Activities
The Town of Weston offers a number of town-organized recreational activities and facilities. Bisceglie Park is available to all residents and includes three little league fields, a playground, a man-made swimming pond with a concrete bottom, and a twenty-two station fitness trail. Throughout the year, a variety of sports and fitness programs are available in town, including year-round swim lessons by the American Red Cross. The Lachat Town Farm connects the town to its agricultural roots through its farmers’ market and community garden. Weston residents are also offered a reduced rate for parking permits at the coveted Compo Beach in Westport.
